Marcella presents to a crowd of early childhood educators

The Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services Early Childhood team welcomed Birth to 5 leaders from Montgomery, Howard, Prince George’s, Anne Arundel, Calvert, Charles, and Harford counties to a face-to-face professional learning session on using data to support school readiness on March 15.  After a welcome from Assistant State Superintendent Marcella Franczkowski, participants spent the day learning from our national experts, Dr. Naomi Younggren and Dr. Kellen Reid and working with their teams to analyze data.  Each team identified key questions to continue to explore and inform programmatic changes to improve outcomes for our youngest learners and their families.

Birth to 5 leaders attended a face-to-face coaching session on using data to support school readiness. Marcella Franczkowski addressed Early Childhood teams from Allegany, Baltimore, Calvert, Carroll, Cecil, Frederick, Garrett, and Washington Counties; Baltimore City and the Maryland School for the Deaf. With support from national experts and the Division of Early Intervention/Special Education regional liaisons, the teams identified next steps for further analysis of their Child Outcome Summary (COS) and other data, as well as next steps for professional learning and other programmatic enhancements.

Birth to Five leaders from Maryland’s Eastern Shore (Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester Counties, plus the Maryland School for the Blind) gathered on Thursday, March 17 for a coaching session on data analysis to support school readiness.

After Assistant State Superintendent Marcella Franczkowski set the stage by outlining Maryland’s focus on Kindergarten readiness, participants spent the day working with their local teams, national experts from the Early Childhood Technical Assistance Center, and Division of Early Intervention and Special Education Services staff to analyze their own data for trends and programmatic applications.
